This classical yoga tradition was taught and passed down to the Indian yoga master, Shri Pattabhi Jois, by the great Indian sage Krishnamacharya, the philosopher and teacher who brought yoga to the 20th century and the contemporary world.  Krishnamacharya was the teacher of contemporary yoga masters Iyengar, and Desikachar, as well as Pattabhi Jois.  These three teachers were instrumental in bringing yoga to the western world in the late 20th century.
